The Chess Association of Malawi (CHESSAM) is the official national body responsible for the development, promotion, and governance of chess across the country.
From grassroots school programs to fielding the National Team at the World Chess Olympiad, we are dedicated to creating a thriving, inclusive, and globally competitive chess ecosystem in Malawi.
The Mission
To promote, develop and govern chess in Malawi by expanding participation, nurturing talent, strengthening chess structures and creating opportunities for players to compete and excel at all levels.

To make Malawi a chess playing nation by making sure that chess is played and accessible to all demographic groups across the country.
Official Affiliations
Proudly affiliated with the Malawi National Council of Sports at the national level, the African Chess Confederation continentally, and FIDE internationally.

Identifying and developing promising players through specialized coaching clinics, dedicated patrons, and high-performance training camps.
National Tournaments
Organizing rigorous, high-standard local competitions, from regional club leagues to the ultimate National Chess Championship.
Global Representation
Fielding robust national teams to proudly represent Malawi on the global stage, including the African Championships and the World Chess Olympiad.
Governance & Arbitration
Establishing standard regulations, certifying national arbiters, and maintaining the absolute integrity of the sport nationwide.
Inclusive Outreach
Breaking barriers by actively promoting Women in Chess and ensuring the sport remains an equitable arena for players of all ages and backgrounds.
